Happy New Year everyone! Are you ready to take on 2018?
While some resolutions are made to be broken, one thing you can do for a healthier, more productive life is to adapt a more positive attitude. Negativity thinking doesn’t help in any way, in fact it can even shorten your lifespan, while positivity can bring constructive changes to your life, making you happier, healthier and more successful. It’s like all resolutions rolled into one, basically.
Now, it’s easier said than done to just tell yourself to be more positive. After all, a mindset change is not simple to achieve. So here we have compiled 5 ways for you to cultivate some positivity this new year:
Keep calm on the road
Malaysian cities are well known for their harrowing traffic situations but honestly, we all have a role to play in making our roads safer and our driving experience more pleasant. After all, we all have somewhere important to be and it’s better to get there safely and in a calm state of mind right?
So remember to signal, stop on red, keep the emergency lane clear, take a deep breath when someone cuts you off, please don’t tail gate and PLEASE resist the temptation to use that steering lock as a weapon!
Don’t complain so much lor
Look, your boss really isn’t Voldemort just because he won’t let you take leave for ALL the long weekends in 2018 (there are a lot!). Complaining may feel good while you’re doing it but it also creates negative vibes that can infect the people around you and create an overall negative environment.
Remember, when we focus on the bad, we lose sight of the good. Just try this- every time you feel like complaining or criticizing, take a deep breath, count to 10, and try looking for the good in each situation.
Do the 3Es: Eat, Exercise and Experience
Don’t skip meals to try to stay thin- eat lightly every 3-4 hours to keep your blood sugar stable and your mood calm and happy. Exercise is also important – it releases endorphins that helps to ward off sadness and stress. And experts agree that it is better to invest in experiences rather than things. So maybe skip that Iphone X for a trip with your loved ones (unless you’re rich then do both).
Ever heard that if you do good, good will come back to you? Why not test this theory out for 2018? Think good thoughts, smile, say nice things, do good deeds, and you may find that the universe returns good things to you!
…but don’t be a pushover!
Being assertive about your boundaries and learning when to say no improves your self-esteem, helping you stay balanced and not run yourself down trying to please everyone and do everything. There’s really nothing wrong with admitting you don’t want to go to an event, or you don’t have time to do something. Take care of yourself.
And don’t forget to smile (it’s scientifically proven to make you feel happier)! If you know someone, anyone who could use a dose of positivity this new year, send them this article.
