In this ever-changing, fast-paced life,we sometimes take things we hold so dearly for granted. We weave in and out of traffic jams, speed on highways, run that yellow light just to reach the destination a mere minute earlier… while putting our lives (and others’) at risk by refusing to wear seat belts. Silly, really.
The Sussex Safer Roads Partnership (SSRP) came up with a brilliant TV commercial that addressed the issues of drivers who refuse to wear seat belts.
With its release in late January on YouTube this year, it has hauled in an astonishing 11.5 million views, not forgetting an honorable mention on The Oprah Winfrey Show.
The minute and a half commercial contained no dialogue and very limited copy. Yet, drove through a very powerful emotional response. SSRP had taken the greatest insight of all- that all drivers have loved ones, ever waiting for their safe return.
Portraying the consequences of driving without a seatbelt in a subtle and innocent manner (no gore, pools of blood or graphic images necessary), less is definitely more than enough.
