Our forefathers, a humble group of individuals, realised early that true strength was found in cooperation – in the act of combining efforts towards a common goal. This realisation led to the formation of what we now know, and hold dear, as the union of Malaysia.
The nature of our union means that Malaysia is, in every sense of the phrase, a melting pot of cultures. It comprises three independent states that are already filled with fascinating traditions into a single united entity.
Malaysians are so filthy rich in heritage that we’ve almost become desensitized to the diversity inherent in our nation. Little do we realise that we revel in this diversity every single day of our lives.
That is why it is important that we celebrate Malaysia Day. It is a momentous and pivotal date in our calendar not only because it is a celebration of the birth of our nation, but it also serves as a reminder of the power of unity.
Without the unity enshrined in the Malaysia Agreement, we would not be where we are today. It is 52 years down the road since Malaysia was born and we are still marching strong, through thick and thin, determined to continue building this nation to her full potential.
If we can learn anything from the fateful day of September 16th, 1963, it is that when individuals come together in unity, powerful things can be achieved.
So let us celebrate the unity of Malaysia, and since Malaysia is merely the sum of her people, let us also celebrate each other – the individuals that come together to give Malaysia her strength and beauty.
Happy Malaysia Day from all of us at Ganforhire.
